The Writing Retreat

The Writing Retreat in Somerset

A view of the writing shed

The writing shed in my garden has been lovingly restored, insulated  and painted to create a calming, peaceful place to work. It has lights, wi-fi and is a calming space where you can switch off and focus on your writing. The garden is full of birds. Although it might be cold outside it warms up quickly.

Inside the shed are a choice of desks. The cosmos is still flowering in October.

The Writing Retreat

Accommodation is inside the house, built in 1750. There is a shared bathroom and this is my home. From the front door are walks into open countryside, walk around the village to clear your head or visit the allotments – which are like Chelsea show gardens.

What’s included? Arrive Friday at 12.00pm, afternoon of writing in the writing hut.

Saturday and Sunday are yours to get your project done, so you will have 2.5 days to write and 2 nights accommodation. Breakfast and tea and coffee are all included. Parking is next to the house.

Saturday morning is busy in South Petherton with villagers queueing at the bakers, butchers and veg shop for the weekend. Continental breakfast in my house. You can buy a cinnamon bun from Mimosa and Moss flower shop opposite for elevenses. Lunch: Natterjacks is a tiny cafe open, or you could eat at The Brewers Pub. Frogmary Farm is about half a mile away. Other places: Choose from The Old Dairy, Bower Hinton, Yandles, Martock, or The Feed station and cycle cafe at Merriott. Lopen Raj is a takeaway that will serve anything you wish.
