Ten slots of up to five minutes each. Bring along a self contained scene from your novel, a short story or flash fiction.  

Send your work to with September 14th Bristol in the subject line. Tell us your name, what the extract is and the title of the piece.

Fresh Fiction is a new series of four short story evenings of original new work by South West writers. Novel Nights will curate a programme of the best short stories submitted to us to entertain and thrill our audience in South Petherton, South Somerset.

How to submit your stories

  2. Performance Date: Sunday, September 11th 2022
  3. Submission deadline: August 12th 2022

Submissions are chosen by: Grace Palmer and Helen Williams (from The David Hall).

What we are looking for: Well-written stories with heart, empathy and soul that will keep an audience entertained. If your story is chosen you will read it live on stage. 

Submission Guidelines

Length: We welcome flash fiction and short stories that take up to ten minutes to read aloud. Please practice the time it takes for you to read your work (without dashing), to check you won’t go over the time limit. 

Email your best work to

In the subject field of your email include which event you wish to be considered for and the title of your work.   

Send your story as an attachment labelled with the event name and the title of your piece. Do not include your name on the attachment. 

In your email, include a short note with a 30-word biography about yourself in the third person.

Interpret the theme in any way you want, but it must have some connection to the evening’s theme. For our first event, New blood and Beginnings you can interpret the theme loosely.
